Doug Young has provided a fantastic service to all musicians by creating an enormous database of recorded sound samples of guitars and pickup systems. These samples contain virtually every type and brand of acoustic guitar pickup, and each sample was simultaneously recorded with a Neuman studio microphone as a reference point. There are also combinations of pickups and microphones, and the samples include separate fingerpicking, flatpicking, and hard strumming recordings. This informative website allows people to listen to and hear for themselves if they will be happy with a product without having to go out and buy one first. Doug is providing this service for musicians free of charge, and has already gathered a huge amount of recorded samples. Our hat's off to Doug for providing this fantastic resource for everyone. The below sound samples represent acoustic steel string guitars only. We have been diligently collecting sound samples of other instruments and will be expanding this page considerably in the very near future. Stay tuned!

Thom BreshThom Bresh, legendary son of Merle Travis, is widely credited with being one of the top recording artists who has perfected the unique playing style known as 'Travis picking'. Thom approached us a few years back looking for a stereo pickup system. His ideal system would pan a bass oriented pickup to one side, a treble oriented pickup to the other side, and leave a big whole in the center for the vocals to reside. Following a summer NAMM show, we spent a delightful afternoon with him and Nokie Edwards in his studio, and installed a passive Stereo Model #54 in the guitar pictured at left. The installation only took a few minutes, and then we plugged the guitar through one of our Stereo Power Blender pre-amps straight into his computer console. At first he thought something was wrong because there was no noise showing up on the waveform monitor. Then he plucked a string and said wow, there it is, where's the noise? He kicked on the Tannoy studio monitors and got a huge smile on his face, much like the one in the picture at left. Then he handed the guitar to Nokie and fiddled with knobs on his console. He added some reverb, then took it away. He tried some compression, then took it away. He ended up with some minor e.q. tweaks, but much less than with his studio microphones. Thom and Nokie were happily picking away, so we left them to their business, and began our long drive back to Colorado. When we returned home, we were quite surprised to find a CD in our mailbox with 19 flawlessly executed tracks on it. Apparently, Thom cut and mixed all the tracks in about 3 hours after we left. These samples are a couple of our favorite cuts from this CD. We hope you enjoy them!

Jaquie GipsonJaquie Gipson is one of the most amazing guitarists that we have the pleasure of knowing. She performs among the ranks of people like Tommy Emmanuel & Stephen Bennett, and we believe she will become very well known both nationally and internationally within the next few years. Her original compositions are melodic & graceful, yet extremely difficult to play. Most audiences stare in disbelief at how she makes all ten fingers behave as if they were controlled by completely separate brains. Below are two samples taken from her newly released CD 'Images'. They were recorded using a PUTW/LACE NT2 System utilizing a PUTW Stealth Undersaddle pickup and Model #27 Soundboard transducer run in parallel with a LACE Magnetic Blade pickup.
