Introducing
"The Quack Buster", PUTW's $60 on-board tone patch. We
are quite proud to introduce one of our most successful products
to date. The Quack Buster is a very simple to install soundboard
transducer that is designed to be used with guitars that have existing
saddle type pickups installed. As the name implies, the Quack Buster
eliminates most if not all of the irritating piezo 'quack' from
saddle type pickups, while at the same time adding warmth, depth,
and harmonic detail to the signal.
The Quack Buster is installed by attaching its
output wire directly to the existing saddle pickup output wire either
at the front end of an on-board pre-amp, or directly to the output
jack for passive systems. The combined pickup signals interact with
each other in many positive ways, and result is a signal that is
warm, detailed, and (in most cases) much more feedback resistant
then the saddle pickup would be by itself.
Rather than adding a second channel to one's pickup
system and enduring the added complexity and cost of doing this,
the Quack Buster is designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing
pickup system with no permanent modifications or alterations. Quack
Busters have been successfully integrated with virtually every saddle
pickup on the market, and this includes Fishman, LR Baggs, Highlander,
Artec, D-tar, Headway, RMC, Takamine, Ovation, and Ibanez. The only
products that they do not work with are the B-band and Schertler
Bluestick pickups because of impedance and connector issues.
How does the Quack Buster work?
1. The Quack Buster produces between 20 and 30%
of the over-all signal (depending on the output strength of the
saddle pickup), and captures a sense of 'air' as well as the wood
& personality of the guitar. Saddle pickups do no do this because
they are focused primarily on picking up the strings.
2. The Quack Buster eliminates the irritating 'piezo quack' of saddle
pickups by temporarily absorbing the over-voltage spikes that are
the cause of this type of distortion. This unique benefit is caused
by the capacitance of the Quack Buster temporarily absorbing, then
smoothly releasing the over-voltage spikes produced by the saddle
pickup.
3. The Quack Buster improves feedback rejection by drifting slightly
out of phase with the saddle pickup signal when the guitar begins
to go into a feedback mode. There is no loss of detail or other
strange artifacts caused by this, and volume levels can be typically
raised by a factor of ten before filtering or monitor levels need
to be adjusted.
