All Pick-up the World pre-amps use our own discreet transistor circuitry and are designed to be absolutely transparent and noise free. The input impedance is 10 Megohms, with variable gain from 0 to 40db. These pre-amps use the highest quality components and are point to point wired for the straightest signal paths possible.

 

The StealthThe PUTW Power Plug:
Our most popular pre-amp for guitars and instruments with endpin type output jacks. This small box is roughly the size of two nine-volt batteries side by side, and plugs directly into the output jack of the instrument. Hand wired from the highest quality discrete components, this is one of the quietest and least colored pre-amps available at any cost. A handy volume control on the top of the box allows one to turn down the volume, mute the output, and change instruments or take a break without pops, hum, or noise. There is a small gain trim control on the bottom of the box that allows the pre-amp to be fine tuned to work with any pickup or application. For people using dual pickups, a Stereo/Mono switch on the side of the box allows the ring channel of the pre-amp to pass through the box unaffected, or to be summed to the tip channel prior to entering the pre-amp circuit. There are two redundant power switches, one on the volume knob, and the other on the output jack. Battery life is 600 hours, and a nine-volt alkaline is included. Power BlenderStereo Power Plug:

This is our top of the line pre-amp. The same size as the Power Plug, this box has two inputs with individual gain and volume controls for each and the signals can be routed in either true stereo or mono modes to the output. There is also a convenient On/Mute/Off switch on the side of the box that is handy for taking breaks or switching instruments on the fly. Whether in stereo or mono modes, the output is designed to integrate into virtually any input. All other features are the same as the Power Plug and the battery life is 400 hours.

Line DriverThe PUTW Line Driver

This is a very popular pre-amp in a belt clip configuration. It has ¼" input and output jacks, and is small enough that it can also be mounted on some instruments directly with Velcro tape, wire ties, or other hardware. It has all the same features as the Power Plug, and is ideal for smaller instruments such as Violins, Mandolins, Banjos and other instruments where a Power Plug would be too large to plug into the instrument.

Stereo Line DriverStereo Line Driver:

This is a stereo version of our popular Line Driver. Two signal channels enter the box through a ¼" TRS stereo jack, and the outputs are separate mono ¼" jacks. Each input has a separate gain trim control and volume and the output can be selected to be blended mono out the tip output jack, or true stereo through the tip and ring jacks. This pre-amp is recommended for all our stereo piano, harp and hammered dulcimer kits. Available in either 9 or 18 volt versions. Box size is 3 1/8" x 2 1/8" x 1 1/8"

....The Pick-up the World Stealth Pre-amp

This is a very crafty and highly popular design. The entire pre-amp circuit is housed in a small enclosure that mounts to the underside of the soundboard next to the soundhole. A small black ½" diameter thumbwheel protrudes into the soundhole opening by 1/8", making this a truly 'stealthy' pre-amp. A high quality battery holder is included, and it comes pre-wired to an endpin jack with a battery switch in it. The Stealth pre-amp input is a mono 1/8" mini plug, and can be used with virtually all pickups on the market (except B-band and Schertler Bluestick). The gain is fixed at 15db, and the battery life is 800 hours. Available in either 9 or 18 volt versions.

Stereo Stealth Pre-amp

This is a stereo version of the Stealth pre-amp, and has two thumbwheel volume controls. The output is either true stereo or blended to mono by the flick of a micro switch. Each channel has the same features as the mono Stealth pre-amp and the inputs come in through a common mini 1/8" TRS stereo jack. Accepts all pickups except B-band and Schertler Bluestick. Available in either 9 or 18 volt versions.

This is a simple yet effective high gain pre-amp that is fully contained in one of our standard 1/4" endpin jacks. The gain is fixed at 25db and comes in either 9 or 18 volt versions.

PUTW P5 Solid body pre-amp kit:

This is a small, unpackaged version of our low noise pre-amp that is designed to be installed into solid bodied instruments. A gain trim control adjusts from 0-40 db of gain, and these are suitable for all type of pickups. Two of these are used when blending film pickups with magnetic signals on board, or the two signals can be routed out of the instrument through a stereo jack. All hardware is included for 9 volt opperation. Can accept power supplies from 9-48 volts.
