| This is Evelyn Woodhead. This drum was made from Curly Redwood and Sitka Spruce, and was largely an experiment to see if the concept of a wooden head made sense on this type of drum. It did, and produces a very focused and feedback resistant tone that can be described in two words, "very woody". The top wood is bookmatched, arched, and pre-stressed with a Spruce X brace, and it has one polymer film pickup in the center of the head, and another mounted inside on the rim next to the head. Since there is no size comparison in the photo, it is about 3 feet tall with a head diameter of roughly a foot. This drum has a very interesting tone with an immediate attack that cuts through larger drumming sessions quite well. We'll get some sound samples up in the near future to let y'all hear what it sounds like. |
