This bass was completed last year, and features a carved Maple Burl (technically Box Elder) face plate and peghead overlay. I cut and seasoned this wood (grown locally in La Veta, CO. elevation 7,200 ft.) about 10 years ago, and found it a real pleasure to work with. I have since befriended a few local tree service people, and am currently seasoning more of this wood for my own instruments, and also to pass on to other interested luthiers (some of the larger burls are over five feet across). The neck is Mahogany with Curly Maple stringers, and the body is Curly Maple with a Rosewood veneer under the top plates. There are also multiple veneer laminations on the front and back of the peghead and also under the fingerboard. There is a double action truss rod and graphite spars in the neck. The electronics are too complicated to go into right now, but feature two handmade humbuckers and a polymer film pickup in the bridge and a Demeter pre-amp. The tonal range that this bass produces is hard to imagine coming from a single instrument, is designed to cover every conceivable style of music. This bass was sold to Joe Gershburg of Joey G's Music in Manhattan, and is possibly for sale through him. |
